White Dew

September 7 is the “White Dew.”

It is the time when the air cools down during the night and dew glistening in the morning sun appears.

In our seasonally blend tea, we combined Yabukita, a Pan-fired tea from Gokase-cho, Miyazaki Prefecture, with Chrysanthemum petal, Ginkgo leaves, and Chamomile german.

From the sweetness in the gorgeous flowers and the cool aroma when the wind blows, to the slightly bitter aftertaste, you can taste the rich harvest of autumn.

One of the most representative flowers of autumn is the chrysanthemum.

Chrysanthemums and dew have a familiar relationship.

On the eve of Chou-you-no-Sekku, when chrysanthemums are covered with cotton the next morning, cotton filled with the fragrance of chrysanthemums and dew is formed. The next morning, cotton covered with the fragrance of chrysanthemums and dew would be produced. The custom was to brush the body with the cotton to drive away evil spirits.

Chrysanthemums with dew on them have a pure but fragile atmosphere.

Both taking in chrysanthemums through the skin and tasting them through the mouth seem to be connected to the wisdom of receiving the vital energy of plants through the body.

On mornings when the dew is falling or when rain makes the air more moist, please observe not only chrysanthemums but also other flowers around you.
