Gyokuro "Hoshun" from Uji

One of the most popular teas on the menu at SAKURAI JAPANESE TEA EXPERIENCE, this Gyokuro is produced in Uji, Kyoto, using the Hoshun cultivar.

Gyokuro is a traditional Japanese green tea grown under shade, with the tea fields covered with straw or shade cloth to protect the leaves from direct sunlight. This cultivation method gives the tea its distinctive ooika, or shaded aroma, reminiscent of fresh aonori seaweed.

Rich in umami with a pronounced toasty depth, the tea finishes with a refreshing astringency that gently lingers on the palate.

We invite you to savor this exceptional cup of Gyokuro.

*Please note that a fine white powder may occasionally appear on the surface of the tea leaves. This is naturally crystallized caffeine and does not affect the quality of the tea. The leaves may be brewed as they are.

*As of August 2025, the Gyokuro cultivar from Uji, Kyoto, has changed from Gokou to Hoshun.
