Winter Solstice
December 22 is the “Winter Solstice.”
It is the shortest day of the year.
It is said that the winter solstice is the day when the days become shorter than the rest of the year, and that the winter solstice will bring good luck.
For our last tea blend of the year, we have combined Awabancha, fermented tea produced in Kamikatsu-cho, Tokushima Prefecture, with roasted yuzu seeds and orange peels.
When the package is opened, a charming aroma reminiscent of orangette is revealed. The mild sourness and sweetness of Awabancha are pleasantly combined with the citrus ingredients.
Please take your time to enjoy the lingering aroma of its light texture and relaxing flavor.
There are many customs for the winter solstice, but in the custom called "luck-fulfillment", it is said that it is good luck to eat something with "N" on the winter solstice.
The “Seven Kinds of Winter Solstice”, a collection of vegetables with two “N” in their names, have been valued as the seven plants of winter.
The custom of bathing in a yuzu bath is also well known, especially in the Kansai region. Yuzu not only warms the body, but is also believed to ward off evil spirits.
This time, we used a blend of Awabancha, oranges, two of which have “n” in their names and yuzu.
Please enjoy a cup of tea with your family or loved ones as you reflect on the year ahead.
