Major Cold

January 20th is "Daikan" (Major Cold).

The phrase "big and cold" indicates that the weather will become even colder.

Major Cold is the 29th and final solar term of the 24 solar terms.
The final of the 72 seasons, which further divides the seasons into smaller periods, is "Chickens begin to lay eggs." This refers to the time when chickens start to lay eggs.
Nowadays, thanks to chicken farming, we can get eggs all year round, but chickens normally lay eggs around spring.

Once the coldest period of the year is over, it is the beginning of spring and spring arrives.
Chickens, who prepare to give birth to new life in the spring, were treated as sacred birds because they crow to announce the morning.
The cries of the newborn chicks will echo through the spring, heralding the breath of life.

This Daikan blend tea combines "Koshun" oolong tea from Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture, with orange peel, rosemary, spearmint, and hops.

When you pour hot water into this oolong tea, the sweet, honeyed aroma of gardenia spreads.

When combined with seasonal ingredients, it creates a refreshing scent that makes you feel like you're surrounded by trees.

Enjoy the lingering spicy aroma that will gradually warm up your chilled body.
